From April 3rd to 5th, 2025, the go plastic STUDIO LAB #12 will take place at TENZA.

For each edition of this format, various artists are invited to provide impulses and inspiration. The aim is to foster artistic exchange and networking within these laboratories while engaging in shared practice and research.

The twelfth edition will be a relatively small one due to the current funding situation. Nevertheless, we will take the time to train, experiment, reflect, and inspire each other.

There will be impulse workshops led by artists Kevin Albancando Tuntaquimba (Leipzig/Freiburg) and Magdalena Weniger (Freiburg/Dresden). On Friday and Saturday, a company training with Cindy Hammer will take place in cooperation with TanzNetzDresden.

Kevin Albancando Tuntaquimba

Kevin Albancando Tuntaquimba (he/him) is a freelance dancer, choreographer, and dance educator from Freiburg, currently based in Leipzig. Since the age of 15, he has been self-taught in the dance styles of popping and breaking and remains deeply rooted in the urban dance scene. In 2011, he was introduced to dance productions in public spaces as a performer through the dance and action theater company Pan.Optikum. From 2015 to 2017, he worked as a choreographer on the EU cooperation project Power of Diversity – The Crossing Lines Project, creating dance productions with both amateur and professional dancers.

Between 2019 and 2024, he was involved in numerous productions in the Baden-Württemberg region as both a performer and choreographer. He has collaborated with artists such as Sigrun Fritsch, Pascal Sangl, Mike Planz, Carlos Trujillo, Johannes Blattner, Katja Gluding, and Daura Hernandez. His most recent choreographic work, Soft War, created in collaboration with writer Martina Hefter and musician Patrice Libep, premiered in November 2024 at Schauspiel Leipzig. As a dancer and choreographer, he continuously develops his movement language by integrating elements of contemporary dance while deconstructing popping and breaking techniques to explore them through contemporary approaches. His current work is primarily based in Baden-Württemberg and Saxony.

Workshop: »Popping«

On Thursday, April 3rd from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.

In this three-hour workshop, we will dive into Funk Dance with a special focus on Popping. At its core is the “Pop”—a controlled muscle contraction that gives the style its signature precision and dynamics. Acting as a rhythmic pulse, the Pop provides structure and flow, keeping dancers in sync with the beat.

We will start with the fundamentals: groove, isolation, precision, and timing. Through targeted exercises and playful drills, we will integrate these techniques into our movement, refining control and musicality. Partner work and freestyle elements will encourage creativity and personal expression.

This workshop is open to all levels and offers a solid introduction to the rhythm, technique, and energy of Popping while celebrating the free and expressive spirit of Funk Dance.

Workshop: »Waving«

On Friday, April 4th from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Let’s enter the world of waving. We will focus on exploring some basic techniques, shapes and concepts of waving. We will get to know ways how to discover and work on our own way of waving through shared practice methods. The training includes waving with the whole range of the body, working on detailed isolation, using our imagination and engaging in partner exercises to dive into the many qualities of this dance.

Magdalena Weniger

Magdalena Weniger is a choreographer, performer, and singer. Under the label KOMA&Ko, she develops projects for stages, off-spaces, and public spaces, working in varying collaborations with fellow artists. Her work playfully moves between dance, voice, installation, and spatial sound experiences. Since 2019, she has been researching various natural phenomena.

Workshop »becoming x«

Saturday April 5th from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

In this workshop, Magdalena takes a deep dive into her artistic practice, weeding through it in all directions. Joining her is her alter ego ICKS, developed in collaboration with Bettina Kletzsch. ICKS emerged from an exploration of the Saxon folklore figure “Moosweib.”

This workshop is open to anyone with an artistic practice in dance, text, theater, music, or voice who is interested in expanding their creative approach. Intuitively and playfully, we will create new characters and alter egos or further develop existing ones. Magdalena’s artistic research often begins on paper: various writing and reading practices serve as inspiration for exploring voice, movement, and different materials. Together, we will experiment with unexplored modes of expression and artistic practices.

The workshop concludes with a performative gathering of all newly created beings and artistic fragments.

Compagnie Training go plastic / Cindy Hammer

Cindy Hammer’s training consists of three parts: a full-body, intensive warm-up, various technical sets to practice movement sequences, and a section dedicated to working with improvisation and movement concepts. This training is designed for professional dancers and advanced movers.

It’s hard to believe, but this was our tenth edition of our go plastic STUDIO LABS. We are very delighted to be able to continue this wonderful format in 2024. However, as we have been in a funding situation since this year, we are unfortunately no longer able to offer the impulse workshops free of charge or on a donation basis. However, we have endeavored to find a fair participation fee structure so that as many people as possible could took part.

Different artists were invited to the go plastic STUDIO LAB #10, who provided impetus and inspiration. The aim of these laboratories was to network and exchange artistic ideas, as well as to engage in joint practice and research.

A format organized by the go plastic company, originally supported by Bureau Ritter / TANZPAKT RECONNECT, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of the NEUSTART KULTUR Hilfsprogramm Tanz initiative. As of now with the support of the institutional funding by the state capital Dresden and the project funding of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony. This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.

The first STUDIO LAB in 2024 was also our tenth edition and therefore a small anniversary. Under the motto “STORY TIME”, we dedicated these days to storytelling. From April 4 to 7, there was a daily program at the TENZA Schmiede.

It started with a morning class with Cindy Hammer on Thursday, followed by the Eat&Great Lunch with go plastic leaders Cindy Hammer and Susan Schubert, where people can tell each other stories. Food, snacks, hot and cold drinks were provided.

The program continued from Friday to Sunday with a daily warm-up in the morning with Joao Pedro De Paula, an impulse workshop on the culture of storytelling with Patrick Niegsch on Friday, followed by a two-day laboratory workshop with Nam Tran Xuan focusing on storytelling in dance improvisation.

The price for participation in the Compagnie / TNDD professional training was 6 euros per session for TNDD members and 9 euros per session for non-TNDD members.

Patrick Niegsch

Patrick Niegsch has been on the road as a storyteller, lecturer and theater mediator in various contexts since 2016. Born in Cottbus in 1991, he studied social work [B.A.] and then went on to complete a master’s degree in theater pedagogy at the Rostock University of Music and Theater. Niegsch worked in schools and at theaters in Koblenz, Bautzen and Leipzig, was part of the artistic direction of BÜHNE acht in Cottbus and completed his training as a storyteller in Munich in 2019. He currently lives in Leipzig, is a board member of ERZÄHLRAUM e.V. and initiated “IMAGINE!”, the first international festival for narrative art in Leipzig & Dresden, together with Maria Carmela Marinelli and Brit Magdon in 2023.

»Narrative reality: fairy tales, myth, lunch«
Friday, April 5; from 12 to 2:30 p.m.

In this workshop, we playfully approach different narrative forms: Fairy tales, myths, sagas, biographical stories and (urban) legends. How does the form of a narrative influence our artistic approach? Is every action I perform (on stage) always part of an overarching narrative in the end? Together we will explore the artistic possibilities that arise from the oral tradition and weave the beginning of a new grand narrative in connection with other art forms.

Nam Tran Xuan

Nam Tran Xuan is an open and versatile dancer from Chemnitz. His focus is on hip hop with influences from house, breaking, waacking, popping and a general interest in different forms of movement such as Tai Chi. This results in an original dance style of harmonious and flowing movements combined with his authentic way of expression. His previous experience and knowledge have been acquired over the last 16 years through competitions within the scene, show performances, a very formative year abroad in Canada and a large number of workshops by nationally and internationally recognized dancers in various dance forms of street & club dance. On his way to develop himself and his dance in various aspects with the help of friends and mentors, he and his crew “Chapter Raptor” opened their own dance studio “Room – Hip Hop Spot” in Chemnitz in 2021 to promote the local dance scene. Nam has also been working in the independent scene since 2021 as a dancer for the company “Miller de Nobili” from Dresden with numerous performances such as at the 2022 Dance Platform in Berlin, the Festspielhaus Hellerau – European Center for the Arts and RIDCC 2023 in Rotterdam. He has also gained further experience as a dancer in productions by choreographers Los Informalls, Joy Alpuerto Ritter, Fang Yun Lo and Saïdo Lehoulh, which has influenced his still young artistic practice.

»STORYTELLING I FEEL YOUR DANCE«
Saturday, April 6 & Sunday,
April 7; each from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

In street & club dance culture, the focus is on expressing one’s own individuality. With the help of music and one’s own movement vocabulary, (personal) stories are constantly being told, feelings expressed and shared – at home, outside in some corner of the city, in the studio, in the club at jams and parties, on stage. In this workshop, participants will learn techniques, approaches and concepts on topics such as groove, isolation and understanding music in order to gain new inspiration for their own dance or freestyle. We will then work together on various tasks to research the form of “storytelling”, mainly from the perspective of street and club dance. Among other things, we will analyze and try out how the different techniques can be used to express certain emotions, how shifting certain parameters of the same technique can change the narratives and how external influences, such as music, affect our decisions while dancing.

go plastic Compagnie-Training with Cindy Hammer

Cindy Hammer has been working as a freelance choreographer, dancer and performer in (inter)national projects for over ten years. Her artistic practice is characterized by this relationship; choreographing and producing her own works as part of her company goplastic, as well as working as a dancer and performer in productions by companies, choreographers and directors such as Paula Rosolen / Haptic Hide, Johanna Roggan, Romy Schwarzer / thegutscompany, Anna Till, Joseph Hernandez, Charles Washington / pinkmetalpetal, Barbara Lubich, VeraIlona Stierli, Avatara Ayuso, Rosie Herrera and many more. and many more. In her movement practice she is in constant search of influences and researches intensively in and for urban styles and their histories, features and characteristics. These findings flow back into her work as a choreographer and performer.

Cindy Hammer’s company training consists of three parts: a full-body, intensive warm-up, various technical sets to practise movement sequences and a part in which improvisation and movement concepts are worked on.
The course is aimed at professional and advanced dancers.

Morning Class Warm Up with Joao

Brazilian choreographer and performer Joao holds an MA in Choreography from the Palucca University in Germany. His work focuses mainly on the theme of communication, combining the creation of movement with other performative elements such as the spoken word, the manipulation of the stage set and theater. He combines his work as a dance artist with his previous theater training, which he completed in Brazil. A graduate of Arts Umbrella Dance in Vancouver, Canada, Joao danced for five years with the Graz Opera Ballet, Austria, and freelanced for institutions such as the Venice Biennale, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg and Wen Wei Dance, performing both as a dancer and actor. He is currently developing choreographies that deal with the theme of post-truth and the movement of demise in the vertical body, and is creating works for the Festspielhaus HELLERAU and the dance company Landesbühnen Sachsen.

The Warm Up class aims to explore how we can use our bodies to reinforce or change what we say, especially through movements we make while we are speaking. When we want to emphasize something, we often tilt our heads or use our hands. In this class we are encouraged to include the movements of our body to support or change what we are saying. We want to develop a deeper understanding of our body and use it fully to complement or even contrast the communication with our voice. This will get us in the mood for the workshops that follow.

Eat & Greet

– the culinary go plastic Q&A round, where everyone asks and answers questions –
Thursday, April 4 from 12:00 – 2:30 p.m.

For the 10th edition and thus a mini-birthday of the go plastic STUDIO LAB, there will be another Eat&Great with Cindy and Susan from go plastic. Eat, drink and tell each other stories. Whether on the topics of dance, artistic work in the collective, training, practice or simply our favorite fairy tales, scary stories, personal anecdotes; it’s story time.
